Texas Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Houston artist Paul Horn. In this, the artist’s second solo show at the gallery, large and elaborate 3-D collages incorporate drawings, text and found objects as well as appropriated and manipulated commercial images. Like children’s pop-up books gone punk and in need of a parental discretion rating, the collages continue Horn’s obsessive assembling of images of popular culture – from cartoons, anime and video games; Osama bin Laden, Tinkerbelle, Superman, the Simpsons, Shrek and Spongebob Squarepants are all jumbled together into overlapping themes of death, destruction, desire, consumerism, and media fueled public anxieties. There are 9 large collages included in the show, all from 2004. There will be a reception of the artist from 6 - 8 pm on Tuesday, January 18. The show will continue until February 12.
